At Sachamama, we are leading a communications campaign aimed at generating support for strengthening the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, under the slogan “Protect the Keys, Strengthen Florida’s Economy and Health.”
We secured the support and mobilization of more than 2,000 people who signed a petition urging Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to approve a plan to expand the protected areas of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Despite the governor’s final decision, we set a precedent by amplifying the voices of South Floridians whose livelihoods depend on the ocean, showcasing the vital role the ocean plays in supporting the region’s communities, economies, and ecosystems.
