Outdoor workers are the driving force of Little Havana’s economy in Miami — which is why protecting them from the climate crisis, and especially extreme heat, is becoming increasingly urgent.
Thousands of workers — from street vendors and landscapers to postal workers and roofers — face serious risks like heatstroke, dehydration, displacement, and heat exhaustion as summer temperatures intensify.
To address this, Sachamama is partnering with the nonprofit Healthy Little Havana on the campaign “¡Qué Calor! Stories from Our Workers”, an initiative that seeks to understand and raise awareness of heat’s impact on communities, especially among Latinos.
“¡Qué Calor! Stories from Our Workers” is a community-driven campaign that uses art, education, and advocacy to spotlight the everyday dangers of extreme heat and fight for real protections.
