Sachamama joins organizations and congressional leaders at Earth Day reception to promote affordable energy

Sachamama, alongside Climate Power En Acción, GreenLatinos, Latino Victory, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, brought together members of Congress, allies, and community leaders for an Earth Day reception.

The event celebrated Latino leaders advancing climate efforts to protect affordable energy solutions and strengthen economic opportunities for Hispanic families.

The gathering highlighted the growing influence of Latinas in Congress and across the climate movement, linking clean air and water protections to lower costs, creating jobs, and building resilience for communities disproportionately affected by rising energy prices and climate policy rollbacks.

“This Earth Day, we celebrate the Latino leadership already transforming our economies and our communities,” said Carlos Zegarra, executive director of Sachamama.

“What we build together now will shape the future we all share, and it calls us to confront and heal a relationship with our planet that has been out of balance for too long. By advancing solutions rooted in affordability, clean energy, and shared prosperity, we lower costs for families, expand economic opportunities, and accelerate a transition that invests in our communities and restores our planet,” he said.

For Latino communities, these impacts are especially severe, as families face higher energy burdens, greater pressure from extreme weather events, and fewer resources to absorb rising costs.

The organizations and their congressional allies pledged their commitment to advancing policies that protect public health, strengthen economic stability, and ensure Latino communities can thrive in a clean energy future.
